V for Vendetta

March 23rd, 2006 by stephanie

I forgot to mention that I saw this movie last weekend, and it was absolutely fantastic. One of those movies that really makes you think. One of the things that sets it apart from other comic book movies is that it doesn’t focus on the hero it focuses on the maiden in distress. It leaves him to be a mystery, unlike every other movie where you know everything about the hero and just wished he’d tell the girl.

The movie has two stories V taking down a corrupt government and Evy’s journey of being a scared civilian to becoming a proud, strong, independent woman. Both stories intertwine perfectly. V wishes to deliver all of England from being scared sheep to being people again. The first one he delivers is Evy.

The movie is perhaps a critique on how we live our lives today. Glued to TV broadcasts telling us of the where abouts of terrorists and plots of minorities and gays who want to destroy our society as we know it. I’d like to think that most people know that’s complete bs but some times I wonder. Ussually, it’s when I make the mistake of talking politics with my family. I remember when I heard my mom recite the fox bashing points on Kerry. That was just too scary, that those tactics actually do work.

I did find very amusing how some people were quick to call it an assault on Bush. If that movie was an assault on Bush it was because the tactics used by the Chancellor resembled those used by Bush. Other wise there was no real resemblance. The two have very different personality types.

By the end of the movie I did find myself wishing for a masked figure to deliver the country from the fear and stupidity of terror alerts, bird flu, and a mass media that wants us glued to our tvs because we’re scared of going outside.
